La Colonia Guell is a town created by Guell to support his textile manufacturing plant. He hired Gaudi to create the church here. Gaudi only finished the Crypt of the church before he stopped and moved on to building the Sagrada Familia. No one knows exactly why Gaudi abandoned this project but he used a lot of the techniques he developed here on the Sagrada Familia. This was a nice tour as the tour company had an agreement with the company that runs the Crypt to allow our group in before any other groups arrived. So it wasn't crowded.

This is the entrance to the Crypt. See how it slopes off to the right. That is where the path leading up to the entrance for the church is supposed to be.

Some of the tile work and stained glass window. The window is supposed to look like the bottom of a pine comb.

Panoramic view of the interior of the crypt looking at the main alter.

View of the choir which is above and behind the main alter.

Showed the tour how easy it was to open the window. Much like modern day windows you pull a chain one way to open then pull the other direction to close.

Many of the original descendents of the factory workers still own these homes. Everybody who lives here commutes to work.

Gaudi would design his buildings upside down hanging chains or ropes.

This is what they believe La Colonia Guell church should look like if it was ever completed.

This is the inverted model that Gaudi built that is what they used to guess as to what the church should actually look like. This model is in the museum underneath the Sagrada Familia.
